The Living Force, the Humane, the Jedi of Compassion
Thon was a Tchuukthai Jedi Master famed for his insight and empathy. An unusually passionate Jedi yet also a great advisor to many, Thon believed that understanding the tension between light and dark, in one's own self and in the universe, was key to being a Jedi. His near-unparalleled knowledge of the Force cleansed the planet Ambria of a host of Sith spirits, allowing the planet to bear life again. Thon's understanding of the hearts of others was demonstrated when he convinced the reluctant Republic to prepare itself against the coming storm of Exar Kun's new Sith, and he was one of the few great Masters who survived that war.
Jedi drawing inspiration from Master Thon's example often find themselves following the spirit of the Jedi Code, but rarely the letter. Many prefer the latitude and freedom of the Jedi of the past, feeling disturbed at the idea of an authoritarian Council. In this time of darkness, they argue, the Jedi must not forget the respect and understanding for all life that is central to their Order's beginnings. This is often exemplified in the teachings of the Living Force - a philosophy of connecting with other beings, relying on one's instincts, and constantly focusing on the present moment. Those that follow these ideals believe in the preservation of life above all, for as life aids in the growth of the Force, then saving life and redeeming others is the greatest service of the Force possible.
In a time when some feel the Republic needs approachable heroes rather than remote defenders, many Jedi think the same.
The Unifying Force
The Way of Master Baas
"Always in motion is the future."
The Unifying Force, the Mystics, the Jedi of Foresight
Vodo-Siosk Baas was a Krevaaki Jedi Master of unusual piety and reverence for the Force. Though a skilled warrior, Baas was a teacher and instructor to many in a variety of arts, dedicating himself to strengthening the Jedi Order from within, that it would better face potential future crises. Though it was his fallen apprentice Exar Kun that would eventually become a Dark Lord of the Sith, Master Baas's centuries of teaching helped prepare many others for fighting Kun's crusade.
Jedi looking to Master Baas's example look to the future, and work to anticipate it. They see the Jedi Code as a means to an end, in order to hear the Force's will as clearly as possible, through instincts and visions. Many feel that narrowing the interpretation of the Jedi Code and tying the Jedi to specific centres of training will shackle the Jedi Order's ability to face the changing tides of future events. The ancient philosophy of the Unifying Force is the basis for these views - to see the Force as a presence behind the galaxy, subtly guiding all, and that the Dark Side is just one more current in a river that would lead to a benevolent outcome. These Jedi work to follow that guidance above all, for only by helping the Force influence the universe can harmony eventually be realised.
In a time when all seems uncertain, including the possibility of a future, many Jedi have come to believe that only this way shows hope.
Unwavering Light sider.
The Way of Master Jeth
"Be mindful of your feelings."
The Light Side, the Paragons, the Jedi of Discipline
Arca Jeth was an Arkanian Jedi Master famed for his unswerving dedication. An intensely disciplined man, it was felt by many that he exemplified all that was noble in the Jedi through his deep commitment to Jedi ideals. In all that he did - lightsaber combat, battle, the study of the Force, the application of diplomacy - he excelled through his supreme focus. Jeth was a vigilant and tireless opponent of the Dark Side, was the man who uncovered the existence of the Sith cult known as the Krath, and helped form the gathering of Jedi that would eventually come to defeat them.
Jedi seeking to emulate Master Jeth's example strive to live up to the exact ideal that the Jedi Code represents. Many of them feel that the scattered, decentralised Jedi Order of the past was a mistake, and that to face the threat of the Sith Empire, the Jedi must come together and codify their beliefs and training. The recent idea of the 'Light Side' is central to this thinking - that in unity, the Force can be a power of harmony that actively resists and opposes the corruption of the Dark. As servants of the Force, those that follow these ideas believe it is their duty to combat the Dark Side above all, for a galaxy with the Dark Side firmly in balance will finally become peaceful.
In the current climate of war, many Jedi have begun to agree.
